ABOUT THE ARTIST
Hi, I'm Philip. Nice to meet you!
🏳️🌈 • 🏳️⚧️
I am a Queer UK based Illustrator with an interest in illustrating stories and characters, whether I'm doing one-off illustrations, storyboards, or a book/comic. My general interests tend to involve a lot of work on my part: I'm learning Italian (intermediate level), trying to learn some 3D modelling in Blender, and comic-making.
I graduated from UCA Farnham with a BA (Hons) in Illustration in June 2016.
My main program of choice is Clip Studio Paint (EX), I am comfortable using Photoshop and
I'm able to format books for print in InDesign.
I am looking out for commissions and freelance work, so if you're interested, please get in touch via email.
Experience and Education
-
Commission work - Most of my clients have been private ones. One of the strangest commissions was of 3 buses for someone's dissertation cover, and the coolest was a giant 2m wall sticker for a child's bedroom.
-
Emotes for Twitch Streamers - This started as an Xmas present for my brother, but lead to some work with Bearded Bob in 2022.
-
Self-Publishing - 'Marchio' started as a uni project but developed afterwards into a full 200 page book, and I'm running the site that I publish Wings on.
-
Comics - Self-initiated projects, competition and client work. Wings is my largest on-going project, but I also work on mini-comics to frequently experiment with layouts and small narratives. For the longer projects, I tend to do a lot in the pre-production stage (script-thumbnails) to make the creation of the final pages as smooth as possible. I've also done a comic for Hyper Epics called 'Aria's Sacrifice'
-
Table-Top RPGs - Hear me out: Weekly/Bi-Weekly games, which for the game to work you need to attend. Lots of team work, and problem solving, all to build a narrative (and to have fun rolling dice). Plus the character building within certain parameters, determined by the game's system and the world the story takes place in.
-
Retail - I worked in a supermarket for 5 years (2018-2023), my job involved being both part of a team and being able to work independently. Not to mention customer service, being on-time to work, keeping up with various colleague responsibilities and monitoring the quality of items.
-
University Degree - While at uni, studying illustration, we were given a variety of briefs ranging from narrative based works to editorial. We had workshops on book-making, printing, and digital work. Some had specific dimensions we had to stick to, while others were down to us to decide. It was an honours degree, so I also had to research and write essays and my dissertation in my third/final year. During our second year, we had a class exhibition that we were expected to plan and organise as a class. I graduated in 2016 with a 2:1.
-
School - (Secondary School to A-Levels) Throughout secondary school, I took part in helping out with the sets for musicals, and I was often in the art room during lunchtimes. I took Art as a GCSE subject, and I also took Graphics as my D&T subject. Later for my A-Levels I took Graphics (the 'art & design' version, not the Design/Tech. version) and Fine Art ... you can imagine the coursework.
