MARCHIO

'Marchio' is a project I which started at university but completed fully after graduating. I illustrated my Great-Grandfather's diary, which documented his time during World War One in the Italian Infantry. The words are all his (albeit translated into English by his son, my great-uncle, Uliano Marchio), and I did my best to bring his words to life through artwork.

A copy of this work is being kept an archive for the Piccolo Museo del Diario in Pieve Santo Stefano (Italy), as the original diary won their competition back in 1995 to be published in Italy for others to read. My great-uncle Uliano, stayed in contact with the archive/museum over the years which led to this opportunity. It's a rather strange thought to think that something I made is being kept in an archive alongside my great-grandfather's original diaries.
